Skippered Sails & Team Events

What is a Skippered Sail?

A Skippered Sail is everything that you love about sailing and exploring San Francisco Bay - and your Captain is included.

A Skippered Sail is designed to help you relax and experience sailing in the San Francisco Bay. Hop aboard one of our yachts at either our Sausalito or Berkeley club and one of our US Coast Guard Licensed Captains will take you for a cruise.

Bay Tours and Skippered Sails

Tours include sailing past iconic sights such as Alcatraz Island, the San Francisco City Front, AT&T Park, and under the Golden Gate Bridge or the Bay Bridge. You will also experience lesser known destinations such as Paradise Cove, Treasure Island, and Angel Island. With a skilled Captain aboard, you will be encouraged to take the helm yourself or you can just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Skippered Sails are a minimum of four hours long and can be customized to fit your schedule and specific goals for the day. With a fleet of about 50 yachts (including three catamarans) across two Bay Area locations, we can accommodate the size of your group. While you don't need a special reason to enjoy a day on the bay, it can be great option for family reunions, birthday parties, and team building events.

No matter if you are a seasoned sailor or a novice, a Skippered Sail is a great way to enjoy sailing in San Francisco.

Private Events and Skippered Sails

Skippered sails are a great option for 1 to 6 people and private events. For large team building events, a Corporate Regatta Challenge is a good fit for you. Learn more about the boats in our fleet here and view Skippered Sail packages and rates here.

Captain Jeff Cathers is really cool. I had such a great time on the Farallones Day Trip. It was actually my very best day of 2020. Thank you so much for coordinating the trip.

I've taken two classes at MSS&C and was very happy with the program. This is also a great club with lots of opportunities for camaraderie and practice on the water. The boats in the fleet are fantastic and kept in tip-top shape. I highly recommend for all sailors and would-be sailors!

I took ASA 101 with them recently. They have the best customer service I've ever seen! I mistyped my address when I signed up online so didn't receive the textbook. I called and the lady immediately sent me another copy! Everyone at the club is super friendly.

I try to get out on the water every week: out the Gate, around Angel, up Raccoon - I love it all. After 18 years as a member of OCSC in Berkeley, I learned to sail the bigger boats at Modern by taking ASA 103 and 104. My ASA 104 instructor Dave Russell was terrific. Also, Captain Bill Moreland has been very generous in giving informal advice whenever I’ve asked him. Thanks to Bill, I no longer have any anxiety about docking!

The meeting room was quite adequate and the location most convenient, but the course outline and instruction were outstanding. Modern Sailing is fortunate to have such a well organized instructor in Mr. Stan Lander who teaches very well from a rich professional background. Mr. Lander was generous with his time and patiently in helping students who needed more attention or time in understanding various aspects of the curriculum.
