Bareboat Chartering for Experienced Sailors
Are you an experienced sailor who would like to bareboat charter? Undergo a Fleet Rating Checkout and you will gain access to sail vessels in the size range that you are most experienced with (and smaller). During a Fleet Rating Checkout, an instructor will evaluate to ensure that you possess the skills to safely sail San Francisco Bay. No instruction is provided during the Fleet Rating Checkout.
You have two options for completing your Fleet Rating Checkout:

Join a prescheduled Group Checkout Clinic with one of our instructors and up to 3 other sailors, which can be 4 or more hours in duration, depending on the number of sailors in the Checkout Clinic; or,

Schedule an ad hoc 4-hour Private Checkout with just you and an instructor. You have the option of bringing someone along to assist as your crew. The instructor can also act as crew, following your commands while evaluating your skills.

ASA Courses for Bareboat Charter Qualification
Students who are new to sailing may qualify for bareboat chartering by successfully completing courses (ASA 103 or above) at Modern Sailing School & Club. To establish a Fleet Rating, courses must be completed after membership initiation or within the last 2 years or less prior to membership initiation.
