From start to finish, Modern Sailing curates extraordinary sailing vacations to exotic and breathtaking destinations. Whether you want to explore the Delta, the Pacific Coast, the Caribbean, Croatia or beyond, Destination Sailing is the adventure for you.

Sailing Vacations and Global Destinations

Relax with friends on a catamaran in the Bahamas or tour coastal tapas bars in Spain while you learn about destination sailing from the experts. Discover the customs of Tahitian locals or tour Croatian vineyards by day and retire to your luxurious sailboat every evening. Each year, Modern Sailing plans flotillas to exquisite sailing destinations worldwide. Each boat in the Floatilla is lead by one of our skilled captains. For sailors who wish to expand their skillset and skipper their own yacht, bareboat options are available.

Beyond the Golden Gate Bridge with Modern Sailing Expeditions

Our Coastal Expeditions gives you a closer look at the Pacific Coast. Known for its rugged coastline and large swell and big winds, Northern California offers exciting and challenging conditions for new and seasoned sailors alike. Modern Sailing Expeditions are open to members and non-members alike and are planned, provisioned and skippered by one of our USCG licensed captains and a first mate.

During a Modern Sailing Expedition, you’ll sail under the Golden Gate Bridge and explore the coastal cities and geography north, west, and south of the Golden Gate Straits. Popular excursions include multi-day trips to Halfmoon Bay and Drakes Bay. One-day trips to the famed Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary occur approximately monthly.

Destination Sailing for Every Level

For Global Destinations and MSC Expeditions, no experience is necessary. Those new to sailing can explore the world from the water knowing that an experienced and licensed captain is at the helm.

The Full Moon Sail with Skipper Bob Gutsgell was Ah-Mayzing!! The group dynamic was lovely and the views spectacular. I can't say enough good things about the experience. Thanks so much for the wonderful Club Sails, they are really great.

I would like to compliment Stan Lander for his coaching, counseling and teaching Heavy Weather Offshore Sailing. Stan was very accommodating to all of the student's interests and shared his many years of insight on handling the boat in heavy seas. I would certainly recommend Stan and this course to sheltered waters sailors. My confidence in handling a boat of this size was certainly enhanced by the experience.

The vessel was clean and in fine condition - very nice boat for training, well-equipped.

I took ASA 101 with them recently. They have the best customer service I've ever seen! I mistyped my address when I signed up online so didn't receive the textbook. I called and the lady immediately sent me another copy! Everyone at the club is super friendly.

We just took our ASA 106 at a school in Rhode Island as we prepare for 6 months of cruising in the Caribbean. The class was great, but more than anything it made us really appreciate the quality of teaching and rigor at Modern Sailing. Even though we were the newest to sailing, the group seemed to think that we had the best fundamentals. We felt very well prepared and we see why Modern Sailing has the reputation it does.
