Offshore Passagemaking (ASA 108)

This course is strictly being taught on our upcoming Adventure Sailing trip in the Caribbean.

The dates for the OPM leg are as follows:
December 21, 2008 - January 2, 2009 (Antigua to Trinidad)

School of the Year 2004

Celestial navigation is an integral part of the class and John Connolly will give you a simple and precise way to do "Noon Sites" so you can find a fix at least once per day. You have to get the Celestial Navigation certification before the OPM certification is awarded. This can be done after the OPM has been taken.

This class gives the sailor the knowledge and confidence to go start cruising on his own. Topics include daily system inspections, plotting rumb lines on a mercator chart, shipboard routines on an extended voyage, emergency situations the cruiser might encounter, and celestial navigation to name a few.

Students will get exposure to very specialized cruising equipment. John Connolly has taught this course many times overseas and is very familiar with this particular trip. He has taught more OPM's than virtually any other instructor in the country. Pre req.'s include ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, 106. Check calendar for dates.
