ADVENTURE SAILING - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  ADVENTURE SAILING with John Connolly
FAQs

What level of experience is needed to participate in adventure sailing?
If your aim is to obtain the ASA certifications, you must first complete the prerequisites. If your goal is not to obtain the certifications but rather gain the experience, you should have considerable prior sailing experience. Give us a call and let us help you find an Adventure Sailing Trip that meets your goals and sailing experience.

What is included in the price?
The price includes the boat, the instructor, all tests and the certifications. You’re responsible for airfare, provisioning the boat (as a group), any outside costs including hotels, restaurants, shopping, etc.

What kind of cabin accommodations do the boats have?
Do I get my own cabin?
Modern Sailing School & Club, Adventure Sailing with John Connolly, Advanced Certifications in the Grenadines, Caribbean
Generally students share cabins. Couples get their own cabin and singles share cabins. If shared by singles, the cabin will have single berths. In some cases, students have a whole cabin for themselves.

How many people do you take on these trips?
Not more than six students, an instructor and sometimes a first mate.

Regarding shipboard duties, what is expected of me?
Everyone is expected to pitch in and work together to do the things that are required on an ocean voyage. Typical duties include standing watch, cooking, steering, navigating, shipboard system maintenance, and housekeeping. No one person will be solely responsible for one duty; rather a rotation of duties will be practiced.

What should I bring with me?
Upon registering, you will be sent a handout that tells you everything you need to know about your trip including what to bring and what not to bring. We call this our “Adventure Sailing Packet.” Read over the information carefully and send back the required forms.

What happens if I register, send a deposit and can’t make it?
Our cancellation policy will be stated verbally before we take a deposit. It will also be stated in writing. It is imperative that you “cover your bases” as much as possible, so nothing unforeseen arises that would keep you from taking your trip.

"I enjoyed the class and John was an excellent instructor. He had an excellent way of providing the instruction at the right times and backing off and letting us deal with the situations, giving us a chance to work it out ourselves. He also was very good at cutting through the complexities and explaining what we needed to know."
- Bill, Offshore Passagemaking, Littleton, Colorado
