Daylight Savings' End Brings Changes to Bareboat Chartering

Daylight Saving season ends on November 5, bringing some seasonal changes to chartering at Modern Sailing. The changes described below will go into effect on Monday, November 6.

Reduced Rates on Bareboat Charters through March 10

Log lots of on-the-water days for less! As of November 6, bareboat charter rates are about 15% less than summer rates. Check out Our Charter Fleet webpage for pricing details. Summer season rates resume Monday, March 11.

Available Booking Types

Full Day (9:00 AM - 8:00 AM next day) bookings are available year-round. Midweek Sunset charters are unavailable as of November 6 and will become available again on March 11.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT NIGHT SAILING

Charterers must have completed ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising at Modern Sailing to to qualify for sailing or motoring after dark. If you are ASA 103 certified or took ASA 104 at another sailing school and wish to stay aboard overnight, please be docked, moored, or anchored before sunset.

If you took ASA 104 at another school or would like more practice sailing at night, our Night Sailing Clinic can help you gain the skills and confidence to safely navigate in the dark - and will certify you to sail or motor Modern yachts at night. Our Electronic Piloting and Radar Clinic further adds to these skills.

Cancellation Policy

For all reservations after November 6, only 24 hours notice is required to cancel a charter reservation with no late cancellation fee. This gives you greater flexibility in planning your sails around inclement weather forecasts. During the Daylight Saving season, 72 hours notice is required to cancel a charter reservation with no fee. Learn more about our charter policies here: Charter Policies and Definitions.

Year-round, Courses, Clinics, and Club Sails will carry on rain or shine. However, when wind speeds are forecast to be 30 or more knots sustained, conditions are deemed unsafe and we will cancel all on-the-water operations for the day.

Multi-Day Charter Discounts Continue

Multi-day charters are discounted 10% for two consecutive days and 15% off for three or more consecutive days. To help you stay cozy on your cool-season multi-day charters, see our article Cozy Winter Chartering - MSC Yachts with Cabin Heaters and Hot Water.

Testimonials

  • Mike, Santa Rosa, California

All of the courses and my instructors (JT and Stan) were extremely professional and full of knowledge and experience. I found I was able to learn from their experiences beyond the scope of the courses, and look forward to future opportunities to do so. I would highly recommend Modern Sailing to anyone.

  • Sara Jane G.

I've taken two classes at MSS&C and was very happy with the program. This is also a great club with lots of opportunities for camaraderie and practice on the water. The boats in the fleet are fantastic and kept in tip-top shape. I highly recommend for all sailors and would-be sailors!

Here are some snaps of Our Saturday, August 20, 2022 Modern Sailing Expedition with Captain Robert Bivin, who was outstanding. Please convey photos and thanks to him. He is an outstanding individual, leader and sailing instructor. His knowledge and experience made us all feel safe and our Farallones Day Trip educational and just amazing.
